textile
One Fabric refers to the lyrics of a song written by Jacek Cygan, performed by Seweryn Krajewski and known from the opening credits of the television series Rodzina Zastępcza: ‘We are all made / From one fabric / That wears thin / And frays over the years / But if we want / All those holes / Can be patched / With love.’
Measuring 5 × 4 metres, the monumental textile is sewn from random second-hand beach towels, sourced locally and forming a kind of contemporary patchwork. Different patterns, colours and aesthetics merge into a single mosaic-like composition. The work takes an object associated with leisure and privacy and transforms it into a large-scale textile. Displayed on the wall of Parkowa restaurant in Gdańsk’s Jelitkowo district, it serves both as a backdrop for concerts and as an autonomous work of art. It was created as part of the festival club project No Pit Gaudy Turbot.
