Curators

SARMEN BEGLARIAN AND SYLWIA SZYMANIAK have worked together since 2008 as the curatorial collective Exhibitions Bureau (Biuro Wystaw), which operates within the Polish Modern Art Foundation, established by Piotr Nowicki in 1986. Exhibitions Bureau organises exhibitions and art events in galleries, museums and public spaces, as well as in private homes. Since 2016, it has also run the eponymous gallery in Warsaw.

The collective initiates and supports artistic projects in public space and examines the impact of art on residents’ everyday lives. The curators have organised numerous exhibitions and projects, collaborating with institutions including the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, Zachęta – National Gallery of Art, the National Museum in Gdańsk, the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature in Warsaw, the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, the Museum of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, the Polish Library in Paris and the Centre for Urban History in Lviv.

In 2019, Sarmen Beglarian and Sylwia Szymaniak curated NARRACJE #11 in Gdańsk’s Siedlce district. Their edition of the festival, entitled Field Activities, received the 2019 Pomeranian Storms award in the Cultural Event of the Year category.
