Floris Kaayk [NL]

Floris Kaayk was born in Tiel in the Netherlands, graduated in computer animation at the Academy of Art and Design in Breda/NL and received his Master of Arts from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. He chose animation as his field of expertise: "Animation films are often a showcase used by the directors to demonstrate the skills they have acquired. I use the techniques to tell a story, it’s a tool." He has been presented mainly throughout Europe and for the first time in Poland during NARRACJE.
The science fiction type short films of Floris Kaayk are fictitious documentaries of yet unpredicted developments in the interplay of natural and technical evolution.

NARRACJE 2011 Work: The Order Electrus

Floris Kaayk's animated film stages a scenario in which the industrialization has become a second nature of the earth. Shot in the German Ruhrgebiet in 2005, the mockumentary The Order Electrus introduces and describes new species of insects. Found at former industrial sites they appeared after production was given up. In transformation of what was left behind, new kinds of electrical insects evolved and made these sites their habitats.
