Gionata Gesi Ozmo [IT]

Gionata Gesi was born in Pontedera, in Italy. While studying at the Art Academy of Florence he started to work in urban environments. Since 2001 he lives and works in Milan/ IT. He has been working and exhibiting mainly around Europe. In Gdańsk Ozmo made his first appearance in the Monumental Art Festival in 2009 and he is known for the wall painting which he realized in cooperation with Mariusz Waras in the backyard of the Gdańsk City Gallery in 2010.

His art works include painting, wall painting and public interventions. His exceptional visual language emerges from a unique world of creativity in which he links the iconography of the Renaissance to the contemporary world of comics and the current portfolios of brand design. In his artistic focus are signs and symbols and their multiple semantic values. In his remix of visual samples, derived from disparate sources, he collages traditional mythologies, religious iconography, media stereotypes and symbols of wealth, generating fictitious mythical contexts.

NARRACJE 2011 Work: Urban Tree

The concept of the "tree of life", illustrating the idea that all life on earth is related, has been used in mythology, philosophy and religion since the ancient Egyptian times. It can be found in almost all cultures around the world, even in the digital language where the "tree of life" is the "source code tree". For NARRACJE Gionata Gesi developed a site-specific intervention. For his projected "tree of life" he collected materials from various sources on the internet and collaged them. It is the first time Gionata Gesi works with a large scale projection.
