Marina Zurkow [US]

In the last ten years Marina Zurkow has been exhibited at the Smithsonian American Art Museum / Washington D.C., Kitchen / New York City, FACT / Liverpool and others. She has been invited by the Sundance Film Festival in Park City / UTA, the Rotterdam Film Festival / NL, Arts Electronica in Linz / AT among others. Her screening during NARRACJE is her first presentation in Poland.
Subject of her vividly colored, fantastic animations is the uncertainty of the relationship of humans and their environment. Currently she works on a series titled Friends and Enemies. One of her works from the Crossing the Waters series will be displayed at NARRACJE.

NARRACJE 2011 Work: Slurb

From 2006 to 2009 Marina Zurkow developed the series Crossing the Waters. It is based on a natural science research referring to the uncertain future of climate change, especially the rising ocean levels and growing number of heavy rains, hurricanes and tsunamis. During NARRACJE the artist will present one work from this series titled Slurb. Slurb, built by combining slum and suburb, is influenced by the narrative and cartoon-like formats of Asian screen and scroll paintings. The images show a drowned city where the inhabitants and their mutated descendants are forced to survive in a flooded environment.
