Andrea Thembie Hannig [DE/ZA]

Andrea Thembie Hannig was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and studied Fine Arts in Mainz, Germany. She finished her studies in 2009 and currently lives in Frankfurt. She started to exhibit already during her studies throughout Germany and with her presentation during NARRACJE she makes her first international appearance.
Photography has become the central medium of her artistic work. She presents her photographies as prints or projections in exhibitions and installations, mainly in series. In the focus of her artistic research are natural phenomena, urban and natural landscape formations, natural surfaces and textures. Analyzing material as well as esthetical qualities with the camera she reflects on the perception of volume and space as well as the edges of the perception of the human eye in the interplay with those of the camera. In her imagery she develops new options how to show the relationship of time, space and light.

NARRACJE 2011 Work: Polar/Light

Polar/Light shows the view from a camera moving down a non-eventful street in a diffuse daylight situation. In the installation Andrea Thembie Hannig splits the projection beam into two, where one shows the moving images in the conventional way, and the other one is distorted by a glass brick and turns the same images into a continuously, kaleidoscopically animated image of light.
