Lisa Dahl [US]

Lisa Dahl was born in Minneapolis and studied at Mason Gross School of the Arts at the Rutgers University in New Brunswick/NJ. She has mainly exhibited in the US, with the screening during NARRACJE she makes her first appearance in Poland.
Her artistic work includes painting, photography, video and installation. In her interdisciplinary approach she links painting, photography, video and installation. For the series Discarded Dreams she photographed discarded mattresses in NYC for more than two years. At that time she had already turned her artistic focus towards the imagery of houses and homes as the epitome of the śAmerican Dream”. She painted houses onto domestic materials like bed sheets and wall papers and instead of painting on the mattresses she started the photo collection. Her spatial installations as well as her video works consist of model houses of various materials like cardboard, wood, sugar and others, which are set in series of periodic formations. Geometrical structures, color surfaces and texture modulations are her compositional tools.

NARRACJE 2011 Work: White Out

The short film White Out presents a model of a tidy, suburban neighborhood being engulfed by a white powdery substance until it disappears.
In her artist's statement she explains that "By simplifying the structure of a house to a basic form, I explore the traditional ideas we attach to home ownership as well as what these buildings evoke for us: personal goals, economic issues, urban planning and environmental concerns. I work in a variety of artistic media to investigate the love/hate relationship I have with these houses and the sprawling communities they create."

White Out had its premiere in June 2011 at the LUMEN festival in Staten Island.
