Irmina Rusicka + Kasper Lecnim

Those Grapes Were Sour Anyway | performative action, 2018

During NARRACJE, Irmina Rusicka and Kasper Lecnim create a situation based on the presence of people hidden around the tram terminus. Dressed in camouflage uniforms, they are observing the surroundings and festival-goers. We do not know who they are, why they are camouflaged or what their intentions are. Their presence is revealed only through the warmth of their bodies registered using a thermographic camera.

Walter Benjamin once said that behind every fascism, there is a failed revolution. All social tensions may lead to a deep divide along the ‘us-them’ opposition. Such situations fuel a sense of jeopardy, mutual distrust and enmity. While some exercise power, others remain helpless, living with the knowledge that they have no influence on anything, which may lead to adopting more radical attitudes and behaviours.
