moderator:  Natalia Uryniuk
17 & 18 November, 7 p.m.
duration: 2 h
location: ‘Przy Północnej’ Community Centre (seat of the ‘Sprawni Inaczej’ Foundation), Północna 5

The art workshop Balticarium – The Most Interesting Animals of the Baltic Sea will be preceded by a short lecture, during which the participants will be transported to the underwater Baltic world and get to know five selected animal species living in the Polish sea. Children will find out what these creatures look like, what they eat and what their habits are. Then, each participant will pick one of them and create its artistic vision, using his or her imagination in the process – whether adorning the lumpfish with flowers or making the straightnose pipefish wear a hat. At the end, children will present their Baltic shoal and tell other participants about their favourites. Thanks to the workshop, young participants will learn the names of selected Baltic animals and discover interesting facts about them.

Balticarium is the first international project about Baltic fauna. It includes the www.balticarium.com website with underwater photos and films, animations, illustrations, educational games and a blog on the Baltic Sea. Apart from the website, the Balticarium project encompasses workshops, lectures and exhibitions in various parts of the world. So far they have taken place in Poland, China and Ukraine. The project serves an educational purpose, focusing on the protection of the Baltic Sea, and is aimed and children and adults alike.
