“Build a Ship”

Tugboats are a frequent sight by the quays of Nowy Port. Their majestic shapes and red colour distinguish them from the pack of other vessels. During the workshops, in groups, we are going to build two models of tugboats of ready-made cut-outs on a scale of 1:50. The works will include painting the elements, assembling the cut-outs into a three-dimensional model of a vessel, as well as attaching strings in the hull of the vessels. Weather permitting, we will go for a walk by the captain’s office to see the actual tugboats and compare them with our models.

Hosts:

Magdalena Nowak – graduated from Gdańsk University of Technology, where she completed her architecture and urban design and planning studies. She is now studying at The Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (specialty: Architecture of Water Vessels). She has for several years been actively promoting culture in Tricity. She is interested in architecture, design, and cinema. A cinema festival-goer and a participant in numerous workshops, she has spent last six months in Porto taking part in the Erasmus student exchange programme, cooperating with a local organisation – Locomotiva – on workshops promoting local community identities, e.g. in Sao Bento.

Patrycja Kruk – completed her first-level course in design at The Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. She is doing the second level studies in architecture of water vessels. She was awarded a scholarship/prize from the minister of culture and national heritage for 2014/2015. She is the co-organiser of a scientific design group called PROCES, which is affiliated with the Faculty of Architecture and Design of The Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. She is interested in marine education.
